Mixing Colors

Click the small color wheel icon (to the left of the screen palette) to open the Color Editor. The tag icon (shown on the left) permits you to name and save a custom color. The next icon, to the right, maps any mixed color to the closest web-safe color.

NOTE: Because there are only 216 web safe colors, the web safe color may or may not come close to matching your mixed color.

From the drop down list you can select HSV (Hue Saturation and Value), RGB, CMYK and Grayscale.

When mixing colors (in this case RGB colors) you can drag the sliders or enter the numerical values in the text entry boxes. The two colored squares above the sliders represent the mixed color (left) and the original selected color (right). This is helpful if you need to alter a color subtly and need to see the before and after.

NOTE: If you plan to work in CMYK color, or RGB color, you will need to adjust the units in the Page Options dialog (Utilities > Options).

For CMYK select Percent, for RGB select 0-255.

And now, on with the tutorial.
