In the Page Options menu, change your units to Pixels and change the Ruler and Grid setup to 100pix and 10 Subdivisions. If you need help with these settings CLICK HERE (you will need to be online) to go to last month's tutorial.

Draw a rectangle 50 by 180 pixels. With the Rectangle Tool selected, click the Curved Corner button, select Curvature from the drop down list on the Infobar, and change the amount to 0.2. Press Enter to apply the changes.

Create 8 duplicates and arrange them as shown.

TIP: You can create the duplicates in the exact position by changing the Duplication Distance in the Page Options > General section. Change the vertical distance to 0 and the horizontal distance to 50pix. Select the first rectangle and press Ctrl D 8 times to place the 8 copies.

 

In the Page Options > General section, set the Nudge Units to 1 Pixel.

NOTE: To access the Page Options dialog, click on an empty area of the screen with the right mouse button and select Page Options from the pop up menu.

Rearrange the rounded rectangles as shown above. The numbers indicate the number of nudge steps. To bring an object to the front or to send an object, or objects, to the back press Ctrl F (front) and Ctrl B (back).

NOTE: Nudge is a more precise method for moving an object using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Holding down the Shift key and pressing an arrow key moves an object 10 times the Nudge amount, in this case 10 pixels. Holding down the Ctrl key moves an object 5 times the Nudge amount. Holding down the Alt key, moves the object 1 pixel, regardless of the Nudge settings.
