BONUS TUTORIAL

Here's how I created the fuzzy-edged image on the first page of the tutorial.

I placed an ellipse over a duplicate of the final illustration and used Combine Shapes > Intersect Shapes to create the elliptical vignette. I converted the image to a 24-bit bitmap. (Arrange > Create Bitmap Copy).

The bitmap was copied to the clipboard (Ctrl C) and pasted into Ladislav Seridi's SL Blur (available in the XaraXone Shareware Page.

The Add Border option was checked, the slider moved all the way to the right (maximum blur), and the water drop icon pressed to apply the blur.

The copy icon (to the left of the hand) was pressed to copy the blurred image back to the clipboard.

The blurred image was pasted back into Xara ( Ctrl V) and the Paste Bitmap option selected.

The blurred image was centered over the sharp image. An Elliptical Transparency was applied with the starting and ending transparency amounts reversed as shown.

The result is an image that is sharp in the center and gets progressively fuzzier as it gets towards the outside.

And with that stocking stuffer of information I'll wish one and all a happy and warm holiday season.
