Now select the enveloped shape with the Mould Tool and drag the Bezier control handles to the intersection of the guidelines.

That's more like it. The shapes now look like they are wrapped around a sphere.

Convert the Mould to Editable Shapes (Arrange > Convert to Editable Shapes).

With the elements still selected, Ungroup 5 times (Arrange > Ungroup or Ctrl U).

Save your work and take a short eye break.

One of the neat things about the Bevel Tool is you can apply bevels to many objects at the same time.

Select the two red and two green shapes, then select the Bevel Tool.

From the drop down list of Bevel Types on the Infobar, select Point Frame 3. Click the To Inside icon on the Infobar (the four in-facing arrows).

Set the Contrast slider to 70%. From the Slider Type drop down list, select Size and change the slider setting to 16. Press Enter on your keyboard to apply the changes.

Select the gold shape between the red and green shapes and apply a Point Frame 1 bevel, To Inside, Size: 4 pixels, and leave the Contrast setting at 50%.

Looks pretty convincing, especially the way the bevel tapers as it reaches the edges of the sphere.

But the shape is still pretty flat. We'll do something about that next.
