Create a circle 246 pixels in diameter, which is the size our sphere turned out to be. Apply a 2-color Circular Fill using the two shades of purple shown.

Drag the center of the fill up and to the left.

Select the Profile arrow icon on the Infobar, and select Profile 2 from the drop down presets list.

Now that looks more like a sphere.

Center the purple circle over the beveled shapes.

Select the circle with the Transparency Tool. From the drop down list of Transparency Types on the Infobar, select Brightness. Move the Transparency slider to 40. Flat should be already selected.

Here is a variation of the ornament that uses just the background fill for the beveled spiral shapes.

You can create dozens of variations of this design if you have the time and energy.

Save your work and take a short break.

To create a tree like backdrop for the ornament, add a rectangle behind and apply a Conifer 1 fill from the Horticultural Fills folder in the Fill Gallery.

(The fills are on the Xara X CD if they are not already in the Fill Gallery. If you need help loading the fills refer to WebXealot #24).

With the filled rectangle selected, right click on it with the Fill Tool. A Bitmap Resolution text entry box will appear on the Infobar. Change the setting to 64 dpi and press Enter to apply the change and make the image larger.
