Select the Pen Tool and click a start and end point for a line starting not quite at the open part of the elliptical path and extending beyond the elliptical path.

Using the Pen Tool, drag the top portion of the line to the left. Click the bottom point to enable the Bezier control handles. Drag the bottom Bezier control handle to the right. The result is a gently s-shaped line shown in dotted green.

NOTE: Xara requires no special action to convert a straight line to a curve, simply drag on the selected line with either the Pen Tool cursor or the Shape Editor Tool and the line becomes a rubber band-like curve that can be shaped by dragging and/or using the Bezier control handles.

Select the S-shaped line with the Selector Tool (the arrow). 8 bounding box/control handles will appear showing the object has been selected.

Holding down the Ctrl key, drag the right center handle to the left and past the left side of the selected line. The line will flop over to mirror the original line. Before releasing the left mouse button, press the right mouse button to drop a duplicate. If you release the left button too soon, press Ctrl Z to undo the action and try it again.

If for some reason you are coordination challenged and just can't make this work, duplicate the line (Ctrl K) and press the Mirror Horizontal button on the Infobar and drag the line, or use the arrow keys on your keyboard to achieve the desired position.
