Once again we need to remove the portion of the conical fill beneath the smaller shape so that when we apply transparency, we will be able to see through the top shape.

Clone the top shape (Ctrl K).

Select the clone and the larger shape and Combine Shapes... > Subtract Shapes. (You won't see a difference until we add transparency).

NOTE: Clone and Duplicate are two ways to make a copy of an object. Clone (Ctrl K) places a copy directly on top of the original object whereas Duplicate (Ctrl D) places a duplicate copy and offsets it the amount specified in Page Options > General. For those who prefer selecting from the pull down menus, Clone and Duplicate reside in the Edit menu.

Apply a Linear Transparency as shown. Extend the ends of the fill path slightly above and slightly below the shape.

Look how swell it looks over either a white or a black background.

Create a larger rectangle 615 pixels wide by 200 pixels tall. Apply the default amount of corner curvature.

Using the Fill Tool, select Elliptical from the drop down list of Fill Types on the Infobar and alter the two colors as shown. You can click on either of the two outside control points to add black.

Center all the elements except the button over the rectangle as shown. The elliptical fill adds a bit of glow behind the text and glass rods imparting a soft, diffused glow to the text.

We are now ready for Part Two of this tutorial.
