Select the blend and from the Arrange menu select Convert to Editable Shapes.

Duplicate the lines (Ctrl K). With the duplicate lines selected, enter 120 in the Angle of Selection text entry box (shown in red) and press Enter to apply the rotation. Make another duplicate set of lines, and rotate them 120 degrees. (I have applied different line colors to show the three different sets).

Select the grid and Copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl C). Open the Layers Gallery by pressing the icon on the Infobar. Drag a guideline from the screen rulers onto the page. A new layer called Guides will appear. Click the Guides layer to select it. Paste (Ctrl V) the grid into the Guides layer.

The grid on the screen will now look like this

Un-check the second check box under the arrow pointer icon next to the Guides layer. This will make the layer visible but non-editable.

Select Layer 1, the default layer. We will do all our work in this layer.

NOTE: For those who skipped the first two pages, any object or text object placed on the Guides layer will display in red dotted lines. You can change the color in the Properties section of the Layer Gallery.

Now that we have this wonderful Isometric grid, we need some text from which to make our 3D letters. I have used Gill Sans Ultra Bold, also know as Humanist 521.

If you don't have access to this font, Click Here for a XAR file with the four characters.

I've added three green lines to enable you to see the center of the grid and to show that the grid is also a 3D cube.

Enable Snap To Guides by right clicking on an empty section of the page and selecting Snap To Guides from the pop up menu.

Drag a guideline though the vertical center of grid. Align the A so the left side is tangent to the bottom and center of the grid. Resize the character so the top touches the guideline as shown.
