This month's tutorial draws its inspiration from two sources: a request posted in the Xara Conference for a tutorial on recreating a sci-fi-looking design found on another Web page, and a new series of Xara fills, Xa-Fills 3 and Xa-Fills 4 from Sapphire Innovations.

I do not like recreating what someone else has already done, and in this case, done extremely well. Not to mention the obvious copyright issues of copying someone else's image! But it inspired me to do something with a science fiction look. And as it turned out, many of the new background textures in the Xa-Fills 3 and 4 collection, lend themselves particularly well for this purpose.
