Using the Rectangle Tool, and with your Units set to Pixels (as outlined on the previous page) draw a 300 Pixel square and a 80 x 240 pixel rectangle.

Using Snap To Grid is helpful (right click on an empty portion of the page and select Snap to Grid). You can also change the size on the Infobar.

Duplicate the rectangle, (Ctrl K), enter 90 in the Angle of Selection text entry box on the Infobar, and press Enter to apply the rotation.

Select both rectangles and from the Arrange pull down menu, select Combine Shapes > Add Shapes.

This creates one continuous shape and eliminates any overlapping outlines.

Select the cross shape and press Ctrl K to make a duplicate in place.

On the Infobar, change either the Height or Width percentage to 70% and press Enter.

This resizes proportionately if the Lock Aspect Ratio button (the tiny padlock icon) in enabled (in the down position).

If the button is not enabled (in the up position) you can change the height and width percentages independently.
