Using the Rectangle Tool, draw three rectangles (shown in red) that are as wide and tall as the perspective shapes beneath (represented by the dotted lines).

Select the three rectangles (shown in red) and cut them to the clipboard (Ctrl X).

Duplicate the background square (Ctrl K ) and then paste the red rectangles onto the page using Shift Ctrl V to paste the rectangles in the same place from which they were copied.

Do not Group them as noted in the illustration to the left.

Note: Ctrl K makes a duplicate in the same place. Ctrl D makes a duplicate and offsets the duplicate to the amount specified in the Page Options > General section.

Select the top most rectangle and the duplicate background (hold down the Shift key to select multiple objects). From the Arrange pull down menu, select Combine Shapes > Intersect Shapes. All of the duplicate background will disappear except the matching portion inside the formerly red rectangle.

Repeat this step for the other two red rectangles except this time, when you duplicate the background, with the duplicate background selected, select the Fill Tool, then right click on the filled square with the Fill Tool cursor. The resolution on the Infobar should read 160 dpi. Double this amount to 320 dpi. Press Enter to apply the change.

I'll explain why we need to do this in the next step.
