Target Practice

Well, September has come and gone and still no official release of Xara X. However, both i/us and Xara Ltd., have made a free public beta version available for download.

CLICK HERE to download your free public beta version of Xara X from i/us.

Why i/us? Well for the last four years, i/us (and before i/us, CorelNet) has provided the server space for these tutorials. i/us also sponsors the WebXealot (my illustrated monthly Xara e-newsletter) and has provided the Xara Conferences for us to communicate with one another. When you buy from i/us, Xara Ltd. still gets their share of the purchase price and everybody wins.

This month's tutorial recreates a bullet-ridden traffic sign that I created several years ago for the cover of my wife's (Mary Carter) book Electronic Highway Robbery - An artist's guide to copyrights in the digital era. (An invaluable resource on digital copyrights written by an artist, not an attorney). My original sign had a copyright © symbol but somehow, having just moved to New Mexico in time for the annual Balloon Fiesta, I thought a hot air balloon might be more appropriate. Isn't there a hot air balloon associated with another graphics product? Nah, I must be thinking of something else.

The original image was created in CorelDRAW 5 or possibly 7. It was a lot easier to recreate in Xara X.
