Select the shape with the Selector Tool (I have zoomed in on the top elliptical extension for detail).

Now select the Shape Editor Tool (the button with the squiggly line) and click on the shape's outline to add 4 new points (red boxes) in the positions  shown top left.

Delete the corner points where the elliptical shape joins the rectangular shape. (Click the point with the Shape Editor Tool then press the Delete key on your keyboard). The top of your shape should now look like the image on the bottom left.

Using the Shape Editor Tool, gently drag the straight lines (that were created when you deleted the corner points) into graceful curves as shown.

NOTE: When working on small sections of a drawing such as this, make your life easier and zoom in close. You can press the Previous Zoom button (the small magnifying glass with the curved arrow) on the Infobar to zoom out to your last view.

Repeat the last few steps to add curves to the side elliptical extension. (We're back to actual size here).
