This tutorial contains over 30 images so I'm going to try to keep the narrative short. To save screen space I've made all the examples 1/2 size.

Create a rectangle to the size shown above.

HOW TO: To set your rulers to pixels, open the Page Options menu, set the Units to Pixels. In the Grid and Rulers tab, set the Major Spacing to 100pix (type it exactly like that) and the Number of Subdivisions to 10.

 

 

(Disable the small lock icon on the Infobar and change the width to 20% and press Enter).

We'll use this panel later on to create the colorfield image.
