With the contour and the Contour Tool still selected, press the Insert Path icon on the Infobar.This creates a new shape and deletes the original shape.

Clone the new shape (Ctrl K ). Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, move the cloned shape down and to the right as shown in the lighter gray color.
Select both shapes and from the Arrange menu, select Combine Shapes > Subtract Shapes to remove all but the section shown in gray.
TIP: You can also access the Combine Shapes commands by right clicking on the selected objects and selecting Combine Shapes... from the pop up menu.
