Disable Snap To Grid and enable Snap To Guidelines. Select the checkerboard shape, click the Mould Tool, and apply a Default Envelope (the rectangle icon on the left on the Property Bar). With the Mould Tool still selected, click in the upper left corner of the Default Envelope. Drag the small red control handles to the guidelines as shown. Whoa, that's a really weird shape! Trust me, I know what I'm doing! This will work. I hope.
