Before Xara X, there was no way to soften just the edge of an object short of creating a complex blend. The new Feathering slider (on the top right side of the Infobar) makes this process blissfully simple. Select the moon and either move the slider, or key in 2pix and press Enter. Now the edge of the moon is soft while the detail in the center is sharp.

NOTE: A Little feathering goes a long way. Don't get carried away!

Click on the rectangle at the bottom of the picture with the Fill Tool. Select Elliptical from the drop down list. Stretch the fill shape and use the two colors shown.

TIP: You can drag a color from the screen palette and drop it onto the end or center points, or you can click on a point, then click a color on the screen palette.

Ooops. I missed a step. You were probably wondering how the sides to the towers got there. Make a duplicate tower (Ctrl K) and position it to the right side of the tower. Reduce the width using the center, side handle (the small black box).

Click twice to enter Rotate - Skew mode and drag the top center skew handle to the left until the ends meet. Select the Shape Editor Tool and raise the bottom right point upwards as shown. Repeat for the other tower.

If you have not already done so, name and save your file and take a short eye break. I'll meet you back on the next page.
