This next step starts easy but gets complicated fast so this might be a good time to name and save your file and take a short break. I'll wait.

OK. Using the Rectangle Tool, draw a small 10 pixel by 10 pixel square. With the small square and the Rectangle Tool selected, press the Curved Corners icon on the Infobar.

Rotate the square 45 degrees by entering 45 in the Angle of Selection text entry window on the Infobar and pressing Enter to apply the rotation.

Joel Schilling wrote me after the last tutorial with the checkerboards with this tip for multiple evenly spaced objects.

Open the Page Options menu (right click on the screen). In the General section change the Horizontal Duplicate distance to 13pix (the width of the rotated square) Set the Vertical Duplicate distance to 0pix. Click OK.

Select the rotated square and press Ctrl D (as in Duplicate) 15 times to make a row of 16 rotated squares. Group the row (Ctrl G)

Open the Page Options menu (right click on the screen). In the General section change the Vertical Duplicate distance to —13pix. Set the Horizontal Duplicate distance to 0pix. Click OK.

Select the grouped row of squares and press Ctrl D  15 times to make a 16 rows of grouped squares.
