Draw two 1" x 2" rectangles as shown on the left. Draw a 1/2" x 1/4" ellipse and make eight duplicates as shown. For reference make the odd number ones red and the even number ones orange. Copy all the ellipses to the clipboard (Ctrl-C) Select the orange ellipses (the even numbered ones) and the top rectangle and from the Arrange menu, select Combine Shapes--Add Shapes. This combines all the shapes into one continuous outline. Repeat this process with the lower rectangle and remaining (even numbered) ellipses.
