In this tutorial, we'll learn how the animated title Gif on the XaraXone home page was created. The animated logo repeats the overall design theme for the new XaraXone of simple gray, pencil sketch-like outlines that come to life as the mouse passes over them. If you have any comments or questions please use the response form on Page 12. All questions and comments are always welcome.

We will be using Pixels as our unit of measurement. Select Options from the Utilities pull down menu. In the Units tabbed section, change the Units to Pixels. Change the Color Units to 0-255.

In the Grid and Ruler tabbed section, change the Major Spacing to 100pix (type it exactly like this) and the Number of Subdivisions to 10. Press OK to close the dialog.

Select the Ellipse Tool and draw two circles, one 275 pixels in diameter, and a smaller circle, 30 pixels in diameter.

TIP: Hold down the Ctrl key to constrain the ellipse to a circle. You can change the diameter of the circle on the Infobar in the Height and Width of selection text entry boxes.

Center align the two circles using the Alignment menu found in the Arrange pull down menu.

Select the Blend Tool. Click on the small circle and drag to the outside circle to create a blend. Change the number of Blend Steps on the Infobar, at the top of the screen, to 16 and press Enter to apply the change.

With the blend selected, click the Position Profiles icon (shown on the top left) on the Infobar to open the Positions Profile dialog.

From the drop down list select the up-facing arc as shown.

NOTE: Profiles are a powerful new feature in Xara X. The horizontal window, in the middle of the dialog, graphically represents the effect of each profile preset.
