Next we’ll create a blend for the top edge of the heart, and a blend for the bottom edge. Select the three hearts and make a duplicate. First, create a 10-Step Blend using the top and center hearts. Fill the top heart white, the bottom heart 40% gray. Select both and Blend. Make a copy of the heart, we’re not through with it yet. Create a second Blend with the second set of hearts, make the top heart 50% gray, the bottom heart black. Note: When you create a Blend, click on one of the outside nodes first with the Blend Tool, and then drag a line to the same node on the inside shape. For example, with the blend on the left, click on the gray heart first, and then the white heart.
