Select the Blend, select the Transparency Tool and apply a Bleach, 50% Transparency. Select the colored hand and colored face and bring them to the front. (Ctrl F).

TIP: There are three ways to select something that is behind something else (such as the hand and face). Return to Outline display mode, or hold down the Alt key and click over the object. This digs down through the layers and selects one layer at a time. The third method involves repeatedly pressing of the Tab key, which toggles though all the objects on the page, until the selection is made.

We've lost most of the image of the circular thing upon which our technician has been working with her little wrench.

To restore it, use one of the methods from the last tip to select the blue-toned bitmap. Duplicate the bitmap using Ctrl K. Apply a Mix, Linear Transparency starting on the left and ending before reaching the colored hand.
