For this next part of the tutorial, you will need Sean Sedwards' Emboss Xara 2 plug-in filters. There are both freeware and shareware versions in the XaraXone Shareware section. Press the X symbol (top left portion of the page) to go to
the XaraXone then go to the Xara Shareware section. The freeware version will be fine for this tutorial though the shareware version ($10.00 USD) provides control over depth and direction)

Make a copy of the text (shown top left). Draw a rectangle around the text that is slightly larger than the text. Change the text fill to black and the set the rectangle's outline to none.

Select both and from the Arrange menu select Create Bitmap Copy.

Set the color depth to 24-bit, and the resolution to 96 dpi (for web or on-screen viewing) or 200 to 300 for commercial printing resolution.

Make two copies of the bitmap. Select the first copy and from the Plug-ins menu select Emboss (you will have to have installed Sean's Emboss filter first) > Emboss Highlights. Select the duplicate bitmap and Emboss Shadows. Your bitmaps should look like the two images above. I have also applied a Gaussian Blur (Sean has two filters for this as well) to smooth the bitmap though this is not really necessary.
