Center both bitmap images directly over the text. Apply Mix transparency to see the text below.

Select the Shadow bitmap (white) and apply a Stained Glass Transparency, 30%. Select the Highlight bitmap (black) and apply a Bleach transparency, 30%.

The portion on the right shows how both transparencies look.

TIP: To select an object that is hidden below another object, hold down the Alt key and click until you have selected the object.
