Select the symbol and from the Arrange menu, select Convert to Editable Shapes. Form the Arrange menu select Ungroup two times. Then Break Shapes (Arrange menu). Shorten the handle on the hammer and the top of the handle as shown.

Copy the symbol to a blank page, or make sure there in nothing else on the page with the symbol. Export the symbol as a Windows Meta File WMF Name your file Hammer.wmf.
