Probe Without doubt the most ambitious project I have undertaken so far, "Probe" is a recreation of an acrylic-on-board painting I did for a racing client here in Vancouver. I made the initial drawings using photos of the actual car, which the owner and I practically disassembled in his shop. I plotted the locations of various components using traditional perspective-plotting techniques, which required that I pin two lengths of string to the wall at vanishing points along a horizon line; the length of the wall in my studio therefore limited the size of the original drawing. Once I'd finished the original pencil-on-mylar drawing, I had it enlarged on film to the finished size and retraced it in ink, then again in pencil on the reverse side of the mylar so that I could transfer the drawing to board. I then painted onto the board using airbrush and brush. I based the Xara illustration on the original pencil-on-mylar drawing, which I had reduced by a diazo printer and then scanned into a .jpeg file. The final Xara file contains 883 objects. 36 separate component files were created, and almost every feature in Xara was used, to make this drawing.
