Leaf Droplets

Leaf droplets ©Copyright 2003 Su LawrenceThe leaf droplets, although were a slightly different look, use the same basic method as the first tutorial. The idea was to have no lower shading on the droplet itself, but instead a highlight to define the bottom edge, with a dark shadow below that.

These had no bevel, just a clipview for the upper shading, a clipview for the bottom separate shadow, a dark background shape with a linear transparency and two inner highlights (a lower arc shape and a larger round shape) all similar to the original tutorial. I freehand drew a single bright upper highlight and added a few lower 'glints'. Because the droplets were small I didn't worry about too much of a feather on the bottom shadow - it was infact part of the original droplet shape (more by accident than planning!) and because it was masking part of the bottom highlight wasn't as transparent as it should have been.

The colours I used were picked from the bitmap background (Leaf2.tif from the Fills > Horticultural Fills on the XaraX CD-Rom). I used about five green colours, very dark, very light and about 3 intermediate shades. One which was more saturated to bring up the colour a little.

I originally drew several droplets and grouped each one ... and the rest was just cloning and resizing to different shapes. I then did some tweaking with various transparency settings etc. You could also possibly use a bitmap copy then clone/resize in the same way, to save on redraw time.

Now for some distortion effects ...
