Creating an Image Swap with Hotspot
by Brian Etherington

Introduction

Hotspot is a small java applet for creating image map rollover type effects. These are very similar to the effects obtained with JavaScript rollovers but without all the image slicing and many small GIF files which sometimes have to be downloaded with complicated images. The applet itself is very small, about 7k, and has been written to be compatible with Java 1.0, and as such, should run in any Java capable browser. The image is downloaded as a single GIF or JPEG file. Pass your mouse over the buttons in the example (linked in the next paragraph) to see the sort of effects hotspot can achieve.
