Now just the fun part remains, and that is to add some colors on the pirate! When the image is fully colored, change the page background back to white (remember, right click on the page and select Default Page Background). Select all objects and export in your preferred file format, for example PNG, AI, EPS or PDF.
My final version with a text balloon added. FINAL NOTE: If you export your image as a vector image such as EPS, you should avoid transparencies and other things such as feathering that may not be supported. The rosy nose is a good example. Instead of using feather and transparency, I used two shapes with a 25 step blend. If you are going to export the image as a bitmap you can of course use whatever techniques and effects as you want because they are all converted to pixels in the bitmap creation process. I had fun revisiting my pirate and I learned a thing or two as well. I hope this was useful and enlightening for you too. Your questions and comments are welcome and appreciated.
