Buffalo Soldier started out as a photograph that I saw which got me thinking of doing an illustration that more closely resembled a painting. It consists of a whole bunch of layered transparent fills for the face. I then used a semi-transparent denim fill for the hat. The beard took the longest since I put in so many individual hairs on top of an asphalt bitmap fill. I like experimenting with bitmap fills and think it's one of the strong points of using Xara
