The Custom Fountain Fills are copied from the three spheres (from the last page) to each of the three elements. (Edit--Copy-Fill From...) The three spheres act as the "source" from which the fills are copied.Even though the gold element will only display the two middle stripes, duplicates of the outside stripes are Combined into the image so that each of the three elements has the exact same diameter. This will ensure the alignment of the fills. The silver element will be positioned over the gold and will mask out the gold element's duplicate stripes.
The gold image is centered over the black and sandwiched in between the silver image creating the illusion of one shiny tri-colored sphere.
