Here’s a variation that’s a bit more slick. Make four beveled edges using the same technique you used to make the L shapes. Fill the top edge white. Fill the side and bottom edges a deep red brown. The inset shows the primary color (on the screen palette) and the two darker values. Apply transparency. See how much richer the sides are using the deep brown as opposed to black. You’ll always achieve a richer transparency if you use a deep color rather than black.
