Creating the Earth, Moon, and Stars

Step 7 Now we are going to make the sun. Select the Ellipse Tool and draw a 230pix diameter circle. With the Fill tool apply a Fractal Clouds fill. Apply Yellow to the outside and Orange to the inside. Click again on the fill and enter 85 for Fractal Resolution and 5 for the Fractal Graininess. And finally, apply 10 pixels feathering using the Adjust Size of Feather region slider found in the top right portion of the Infobar to soften the edge of the sun and to create a diffused look.

By the way did I tell you to apply feathering to the Earth and Moon? I thought not. Apply 4 pixels of feathering to the Earth and 2 pixels to the moon. Make sure that each set of spheres has been grouped.

Step 8 With the sun group selected, select the Shadow tool and apply a Glow Shadow. Apply the following shadow enhancements Shadow Blur 40%, Shadow Transparency 68%, and in Horizontal position 5pix, Vertical Position -4pix

Step 9 Next we'll make a star-filled sky. Select the Rectangular Tool and draw a rectangle 623pix wide and 429pix tall and with the rectangle still selected select the Fill Tool. Apply a Circular fill and drag the center of the fill to the upper left corner of the rectangle.

Apply an RGB 255, 246, 157 fill to the center and apply Black as the outside color. The pale yellow color we just created will be an extension of the shadow from the sun as you will find out in the next step.

With the rectangle still selected send it to the back (CRTL-B) or ARRANGE> Put to Back
