If you notice the over all color of the page is dull gray. If we know the color of the paper on which the drawing was made is white, we can use the Set White Point color picker (the eyedropper tool on the right) to brighten the white. Click the Set White Point icon and then click it on a section of the page that should be white. The example above is divided into three sections. The first section has not been modified. In the central panel the Levels have been adjusted. In the panel on the right, the paper has been sampled with the Set White Point tool. Finally we can apply a small amount of Unsharp Mask (Filters > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask) to bring out some of the detail. Unsharp masking accentuates the differences between edges. But be careful not to use too much. Experiment. If you see a halo around the shapes you need to reduce the amount. Check and uncheck the Preview button the see the results. In the image above, you can see the before (bottom) and after (top).
