A Gift of Fire book cover

This cover used a stock photo of the statue of Prometius (the God of Fire) from Rockefeller Center in New York City. I used various bitmap programs to change make it look like a painting, with a sponge painted background.

I used Xara to apply the type, which is Adobe Celestia . Two things are unique about it—the subtitle of the book is above the title, which isn't wrong, just different. And the diskette of fire in the illustration is placed right in the title of the book.

This cover never saw the light of day, because the publisher thought that diskettes would be obsolete, so they wanted a CD. But the CD looked like a flaming bagel, and that didn't work. I don't know what they did end up with, but I always liked this design, and I'm sure more people have seen it on my web site than would have seen it on that book cover!
